Giants vs Jets 08/21/2008

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way"....surely the Giant / Jets game last thursday evening was clearly a "Tale of Two Cities"
For the New York Jets fans, for the first time since "Broadway Joe" (or at least since Bill Parcels) hope springs eternal. The arrival of Bret Farve puts pride back in the fans of "Gang Green" and while a thirty-nine year old quaterback cannot solve all the problems of a team coming off a 4 and 12 season, he does give you reason to feel good about your chances this season. The playoffs are a real possibility and as they say "once your in the tournament, ya never know....".
Meanwhile, while I though the Giants would need a year to recover from their trip (and win) of the Super Bowl, much of their hope went down during a meaningless pre-season game when their best defensive player tour out his knee and ended his season. Even before Osi went down I felt that between the 2008/2009"Post Super Bowl" schedule, losing Shockey, Strahan, Mitchell, etc, and even just the fact that no one (outside of New England) repeats anymore, that the Giants would have a tough season ahead. Now, Giant fans will just have to enjoy winning it all last year for a little while longer.
